The skis were brought out
Beautiful, fluffy powder snow and sunshine, what could be better?
It is a joy to ski through such pristine snow.
And then it quickly looks like this...
The temperatures varied, ranging from -12 degrees Celsius to -3 degrees on other days. On the colder days, I wore my thick, felted knitted mittens, mainly because I wanted to take photos... my hands warmed up quickly with the mittens and skiing.
On warmer days I wore thinner mittens, which made it much easier to grip the sticks. I like wearing my hand-knitted mittens.
This is a genuine border stone from 1735 - I'm on the Meissen side - you know the Meissen porcelain with the blue crossed swords?
The evening sun sinks over the villages... it's time to go home.
I love this side of winter.

To all my handwerk- and sewing friends... I took my quilt top to my longarm quilter, I couldn't take a nice photo and will take one when I pick up the quilt.

I have never skied, Viola, but long walks in winter snow have always thrilled me. To observe nature in winter is exciting and there is so much to see. I am glad that I live in a northern country. Keep on doing what you do best - enjoying life! Hugs - David

I see your warm gloves, and I remembered that I had mine in my pocket during our walk.
Because I can't take pictures with gloves on, I need my finger to press the button.
So my fingers turned red from the cold, they froze and were almost paralyzed.
But the winter walk was good and I enjoyed it!
Oh, yes. Therefore, when I wanted to take photographs, I used the thick blue felted gloves so that my frozen fingers could warm up again.

At home my fingers finally warmed up. It was a winter experience for me, I like the cold in winter. I am a winter fan!

Albrechtsburg Castle, the first German castle, had already been built in 1470, but it was never used by the princes. Herrliche Winter-Impressionen! Die selbst gestrickten Handschuhe sind ein tolles Kunstwerk! Sie sehen wunderschön und warm aus. Das ist Viola mit ihrem Talent! Der Schneemann wird hoffentlich noch eine Weile Bestand haben. Trotz Tauwetter haben wir hier im Bayerwald immer noch gut Schnee. Ist auch toll für die Kinder.. Du bist echt sportlich!

Diese kalten und klaren Wintertage habe ich immer sehr geliebt, und ich vermisse sie auch. Allerdings vermisse ich nicht das Schneeschippen und Glatteis. Ich musste immer früh zur Arbeit fahren, und das war oft nicht ganz ungefährlich.

Athough it never snows in Porto or lLisbon or the coastal regions of the Algarve, it does snow in central Portugal in the mountains of Serra da Estrela where it has a wonderful ski resort. This is where we used to stay with our children until their teenage years, and we all learned to ski. What fun we had,
so I do know how exhilarating it is.Your mittens, both pairs are pretty as well as practical and the winter snow scenes are lovely.

The evening light over the village as seen through the forest is magical. I do love snow and skied quite a lot when I was younger. Then we moved to the tropics and skiing stopped. I haven't started again since moving back to Canada. No snow at all here this year. I keep hoping. We could see some in February.

AntwortenLöschenDu kannst dir also sogar deine eigene Langlaufloipe spuren, das ist ja toll! Ich bin nur zweimal in meinem Leben langlaufen gewesen (ich bin von der Alpinski-Fraktion - und das KANN ich, im Gegensatz zum Nordischen 😉), und das immer auf bereits vorgespurten Loipen. War bei meinem Antitalent aber vermutlich auch besser 😅 In unserer Gegend ist mit Langlaufen sowieso nicht viel los und auch nicht mit Schneeschuhwandern, das Edi und mir viel Spaß macht. Es bleibt also beim Zu-Fuß-Gehen. Minus 12 hatten wir hier zum Glück nicht - minus 8 war das kälteste bisher und walken war ich bei ungefähr minus 5... da reichten mir auch meine Fotografier-Fäustlinge mit den zwei "nackigen" Fingern, die ich letztens gezeigt habe.

AntwortenLöschenIch glaube, dadurch dass David und Miriam sehr häufig in der Gegend spazieren gehen und Vögel füttern (und dass auch andere Wanderer Vogelfutter auslegen) sind die Vögel dort weniger scheu als wenn man einfach nur unvorbereitet in einen Wald geht. Das heißt, sie wissen, die ausgestreckte Hand bedeutet Futter und üblicherweise auch keine Gefahr. Ein bisserl Geduld muss man natürlich mitbringen, aber es war gut auszuhalten 😉. Edi hat mir übrigens erzählt, die Meisen im Garten seiner Eltern kamen auch auf die Hand, um Futter zu holen - selbes Prinzip: Sie kannten die Hände, die sie fütterten. Zu uns in den Garten kommen zwar auch Meisen, Spatzen, Amseln und manchmal auch ein paar seltenere Besucher wie Grünfinken oder Rotkehlchen... aber ich habe noch nie versucht, mich still in den Garten zu stellen mit Futter auf den Händen, um zu sehen, was passiert. Ich fürchte, dafür bin ich "zu wenig Ohm" ... 😅

Det så herlig ut med skitur, snø og sol! Vi fikk også snø like etter nyttår og den første helgen var det sånne turmuligheter her også. Men så ble det noen dager med mildvær og slutt på skiføret.
