Aspargesen er klar til høsting
The asparagus is ready to harvest
and in my garden the rhubarb
...next harvests are sour cherries and strawberries in June... I'm looking forward to baking wonderful cakes and inviting friends over.
And do you see that wonderful yellow?

The last tulips in the garden are fading, but the roses will soon replace them.
There were a few festivals here with us... like the town festival with lots of music, the 30th Karl May festival nearby with beautiful horses and a folk festival where I shot a flower with an airgun, it's standing now in the living room ... very proud :-)))
(Yes, I sewed the little colorful coasters brand new.)
Roxette band of the 80's and 90's... lovely

The new green is gorgeous. We are almost there too. My rhubarb is a few weeks from a rhubarb cake! Your pie looks yummy!
Beautiful. What were those yellow plantings?
AntwortenLöschenI leave the baking to those that are much more talented than I am.
What a beautiful area you live in.
...it's canola (from the cruciferous family) and it blooms for about four weeks, which is the best time of spring. This yellow of the fields is simply heavenly. A hug.
LöschenVery good entrance, we start with the dishes, an exquisite pint in all, the very beautiful landscapes invite you to visit, the local festivals have their charm and bring memories to my mind.
AntwortenLöschenHappy week.
Best regards.
Beautiful pictures. Our flowers are a few weeks behind yours. Good to see what is coming next.
AntwortenLöschenFun post. You got me with asparagus and rhubard crumbe, yummy! Great photos, too. Hugs, Valerie
Hubby likes asparagus but not me, the flowers are pretty
AntwortenLöschenI've never seen white asparagus, only green.
AntwortenLöschenMy rhubarb didn't came back this year. :(
The blooms are beautiful.
Lovely flowers, fresh rhubarb and asparagus are some of the great pleasures of Spring. How I look forward to the strawberries!!
AntwortenLöschenGranny Marigold
Certainly healthy looking food you have grown.
AntwortenLöschenThe trees and grass look so lovely, and the festival looks fun.
Your tulips are wonderful, they always look a picture tulips do.
I remember Roxette well, loved their singing and their songs...we can still listen to them.
What a busy time you have! Great photographs. xx
AntwortenLöschenHej Viola,
AntwortenLöschenLekker asperges en rabarbertaart! De zonnig gele koolzaadvelden zijn prachtig. Mooie optocht van Karl May.
Lieve groet Willy
Eine tolle Würdigung des Wonnemonats Mai! Wunderschöne Wiesen, Wälder, Felder und Blüten haben alles verzaubert. Die Kochrezepte laden ein, es dir nachzumachen. Mmmm Rhabarberkuchen! Mmmm Spargel!
I've never seen white asparagus!
AntwortenLöschenBeautiful photos!
hugs
Donna
Vakkert! :)
AntwortenLöschenThat festival looks like a lot of fun! And I love rhubarb! A real summer treat.
AntwortenLöschenYour flowers are beautiful! Wish I could be at your music festival, it looks like fun.
AntwortenLöschenIt is lovely to be able to pick fresh rhubarb from the garden-your rhubarb and asparagus look very good.
AntwortenLöschenThe coasters you made are very pretty and colourful.
Looks like your town has been having some fun festivals lately. Lots of things for you to enjoy. Have a happy weekend Viola x
Nature is really at its best this time of year, isn't it, everything being so lush and green.
AntwortenLöschenThe asparagus is looking very yummy, and I'm quite envious of your rhubarb as ours hasn't come up (yet) this year.
How intriguing that you've got a Karl May festival. I'm guessing the author hails from your part of the world? xxx
Karl May is a German adventure novelist (1842-1912).
LöschenHis novels formed the basis of entertainment cinema in the period 1962-1968, which saw the appearance of the first Winnetou films, starring actors Pierre Brice and Lex Parker.
At the place where he died in Radebeul near Dresden there is a museum and the Karl May Festival takes every year.
I have seen white asparagus, Viola, but I am not sure that I have ever eaten it. Does it taste radically different from green asparagus? This year's asparagus was wonderful and we had several meals featuring it. Once the local crop is done for the year we wait until the next season. The imported stuff is often woody and stringy. Rhubarb is ready here and I am looking forward to a rhubarb sauce we make to accompany chicken. It is delicious. Miriam also make rhubarb muffins, so there is much to enjoy. Hugs from Ontario - David
AntwortenLöschenWhite asparagus ripens underground and is pricked (harvested, cut) as soon as it breaks through the surface. White asparagus is particularly tender and mild, it must be eaten very fresh and, above all, it must be peeled. Freshly cut asparagus is plump, juicy, has no cracks and the stalks are shiny. For example, a stick of quality asparagus costs 1 euro at the market. I prepare 5 sticks for one meal, that's about 500 grams. And as I said, it has to be very fresh.
LöschenGreen asparagus is crunchier, firmer to the bite and has a stronger taste, it is heartier and spicier. The white asparagus is much more tender. I love both types, however, if I can get fresh white ones, I'll take the white one.
We harvest the white asparagus until June 24th.
Harvesting starts - depending on the weather - at the end of April to mid-May... when the asparagus tips want to start breaking through the soil... (those that manage and are pricked too late turn purple on the tips, which is a quality defect. )
Here everyone is looking forward to the asparagus, just like the strawberries :-)))
Sounds quite wonderful!
LöschenWhat beautiful photos you capture, Viola. The festival looks like lots of fun. The food looks delicous, the flowers are showing their beauty. It's a great time of year. Enjoy your days, hugs from Ireland.
AntwortenLöschenRhubarb pie, is something I like.
AntwortenLöschenCoffee is on, and stay safe.
The food looks appetising. And such wonderful photos too, especially the flowers. Thank you so much.
AntwortenLöschenGod bless.
Canola fields in bloom are a glorious sight, seen here in Canada, too. I made a rhubarb cake the other day. It's so wonderful to be picking and eating things from the garden. Roses are blooming here, and peonies. I love this season!
Kaikki parhaat

AntwortenLöschenI love white asparagus, a rare vegetable here in Scotland. Ours is all green. Did you grow yours?
AntwortenLöschenThe forest path looks inviting. The flowers are so brightly colorful! I'd enjoy the festival; looks like fun :)

Fina bilder.
Ha en bra dag /Kram Marika
Hi Viola,
AntwortenLöschenSpectacular publication.
How delicious your meals look.
I loved the fields dressed in yellow, the photos of the forest and your beautiful tulips.
Excellent reporting from the city festival.
Ihanaa parsaa.
AntwortenLöschenWhat a lovely post this is, I did enjoy seeing your photographs.
AntwortenLöschenEnjoy this last day of May and have a happy new month of June.
All the best Jan
