 Moritzburg hunting castle

There was interest in the water castle we walked to last week. We like being there because, on the one hand, it is embedded in a lovely landscape and, on the other hand, it is close by. Duke Moritz had a hunting residence built on this site in 1542, which August the Strong, Elector of Saxony, had M. Pöppelmann convert into a magnificent baroque palace from 1723 onwards. It is located in an extensive pond and park landscape.

For example, the castle was chosen as the setting for the fairy tale “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” and there is currently an exhibition about it in the castle.

We didn't time it well and were caught in a heavy downpour, which soaked us... but we managed a wonderful, extensive walk around the castle.

Kjære Oddi, forrige uke det var grøntområde :-))

We had the biggest rain shower of the day and really had to laugh afterwards because we neglected to look at the precipitation radar... lots of sun that day too :-))) There's no reason to be regret, we had plenty Have fun and a wonderful cake at home :-))

AND NOW

for alle snøelskere - for all snow lovers

I love it.

The Advent wreath is ready, the Christmas stars - inside and outside - are set up... it will be wonderful when they shine from the weekend onwards.

A big hug for all of you.

En glad klem til deg fra Viola.

    1. August the Strong was born from the line of the House of Wettin in Dresden in 1670 and lived until 1733. He was Elector of Saxony, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania.
He had magnificent buildings built... in Dresden, for example, the residential palace, the Catholic Court Church, the Elbe terraces and the Dresden Zwinger... he promoted the construction of the Frauenkirche... and built the Moritzburg hunting and moated castle in the Dresden area, for example Pillnitz Castle... he also had important urban developments built in Warsaw/Poland.
The period is now also called the Augustinian Age or Dresden Baroque.

  4. Finally google translate worked today and I was able to read your overdue entries. It's true, the castle you're showing us today looks a lot like the castles in children's stories. All your tickets are very interesting and make us know places that are not shown to tourists. Cariños Viola from Argentina.

  6. Thank you, Viola, for sharing the history and beautiful pictures of the castle! So beautiful. Sorry that you got quite wet though. I also enjoyed your snow pictures. We finally had our first snow of much accumulation on Tuesday. We had about four inches and it was like a winter wonderland!

The castle photos are also nice.
I like Christmas lights, it was good to read about the stars inside and outside. I burn candles every evening during the Advent season.

  22. Bonjour Viola,

    1. Dear Donna, I'll try.
If you can read English you have understood everything because I write in Norwegian and English... it is the same text once in Norwegian and once in English.
      Kind regards Viola

  39. That hunting castle is incredible! When I see it, I cannot help but think about how cold it must be in there. With all that stone, it has to be nearly impossible to heat. Your snow pictures are beautiful, looks like a great place to go for a peaceful walk.

  40. Ah! Viola ... your snow pictures are extraordinary! Such beauty. And those gorgeous grounds of the castle -- so stunning. The water and the swans and just everything, so pretty. Nothing wrong with a little rain shower either! As long as it is mixed with sun. Happy Christmas Season to you and yours! xoxo
