Start of last vacation - Quilt - October bliss
Who doesn't dream of flying!
Well, we were traveling by car on our vacation, but we were very enthusiastic about visiting the Wasserkuppe, which is considered "the cradle of gliding".
We were already looking forward to the German Gliding Museum with model flights.
It's also exciting to watch the planes take off on the 670 m long asphalt runway...
Just like the hang gliders and paragliders.
And last but not least, there is fantastic nature all around for hiking and relaxing.
Just beautiful.
Our next destination was the Eifel in Germany - Monreal and Monschau - the two ancient cities of cloth makers and wool crafts, which were based on the large herds of sheep. The half-timbered and quarry stone houses bear witness to the prosperity between the Thirty Years' War and the 19th century.
We had a meal in this small inn in Monschau
and I ordered a real Belgian beer in anticipation of our next destination... before we hiked back to our accommodation.
Later BELGIUM - and now Quilt.
The binding is prepared and since there are so many corners, I sewed small coasters.
Aren't they funny :-))
I have more in the works :-)) and since the weather was so good there were some great hikes.
All the best until next time.
Hug from me.
The scenery and houses are beautiful! Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Happy stitching!
Saluti
AntwortenLöschenDearest Viola,
AntwortenLöschenYou were in, for me, familiar territory and with perfect weather.
Did not know that history about cloth making for Monschau.
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely post.
AntwortenLöschen...Viola, thanks for taking me along on your journey. The buildings look like they came right out of a story book!
AntwortenLöschenWhat breathtaking places you hiked to! Wow!
AntwortenLöschenKjære Viola,
AntwortenLöschenSå mange vakre bilder du viser! De gamle husene er så fine. De er nok godt vedlikeholdt. Quiltingen din blir veldig fin.
Klem fra Marit
Glad you enjoyed your hikes, it's good to get out. The Eifel is a wonderful place to visit, so many pretty towns. Have a great week, Hugs, Valerie
AntwortenLöschenNice report, a great vacation. The landscapes are wonderful and those towns seem straight out of a story.
AntwortenLöschenThe coasters turned out beautiful.

Just beautiful there! Gliding, though--I am too afraid of heights!
AntwortenLöschenSuch a pretty town. I hope you had a wonderful time. :)
I love that Eifel architecture.
AntwortenLöschenBeautiful photos of your travels. Glad you had a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day.
AntwortenLöschenWhat a beautiful place for a vacation. The scenery is simply amazing. My dad would have liked seeing all the flying things. He loved to fly
AntwortenLöschenThe road between the houses…beautiful. So inviting!

WOW, what stunning pictures of everything. Amazing vacation.
AntwortenLöschenWhat a wonderful trip, Viola - and such stunning scenery! Your coasters are a wonderful idea.
AntwortenLöschenI think the coasters are beautiful. I love the places you visited. You got some great views with your camera...I would have enjoyed seeing these for myself.
AntwortenLöschenWhat a lovely holiday you had. So many beautiful pictures,
AntwortenLöschenI like the little coasters too. You've made good use of the tiny pieces left over💚💙💜
The scenery is beautiful, and the buildings also are nice. The quilting turned out good too.
Petra
Great pictures from your travels - and cute coasters! xx
Lieve groet Willy
Beautiful coasters and pictures! I am reading your blog and drinking my morning coffee. Sun is shining after the night rain, and I feel that life is nice. I wish you all the best. Hugs. Éva
AntwortenLöschenIt’s always a joy to read your blog, Viola, for a lesson in exuberance and the enjoyment of life. Seems like you are having a great vacation - and your quilt is looking fabulous too. Having a great Belgian beer is a fine advance introduction to a country you are about to visit. We’ll all look forward to hearing about it. Very best wishes - David

Dir alles Liebe, Carola
AntwortenLöschenHow lovely to accompany you on your travels, Viola.
AntwortenLöschenThe Wasserkuppe and Gliding Museum sound very exciting, and I've been to Monschau a couple of times, it not being too far from the Belgian border. And I see you tasted some non-alcoholic Leffe!
Loving the quilted coasters! xxx
Hi Viola!
AntwortenLöschenIt looks as you had a lovely vacation , so beautiful landscape and nice hiking areas. Really beautiful.
Hugs from Marika
Cute coasters!!! I enjoyed your vacay photos, too!!!
As I began to read this post, I was half expecting you to say that you tried either paragliding or hang gliding! What a treat to read your travel stories and open my eyes to places I have never heard about.
AntwortenLöschenI want to travel with you!!....and I will pay for the beer!....fantastic and beautiful post!!!.....Abrazotes, Marcela
AntwortenLöschenOh so beautiful! The houses is just amazing! A fantastic post...
AntwortenLöschenHave a happy Monday!
Love from Titti
(Beautiful quilt too)
It looks like your holiday was just perfect for you with the beautiful scenery and places to see. The German Gliding museum would be fun to visit but I don't think I would be able to hang glide myself. I have enough of an adventure on a regular plane flight :-)
AntwortenLöschenI love the coasters you made with the scraps left over from your quilt. Very bright and colourful.
Thinking of you. Have a good week.
Wonderful photos and such a beautiful quilt! The gliding museum reminds me of one we visited a few years ago in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Always fascinating to see what brave people there were when flying was brand new. Brave people to go up on a hang glider now :) Splendid post Viola, thank you so much!
AntwortenLöschenHello Viola,
AntwortenLöschenFantastic pictures. Amazing to see all the nice places you have visit. That planes and paragliders are very special to see.
And very tasty that Leffe Beer..hihi..!!
Many greetings,
Marco
Felices vacaciones.
AntwortenLöschenBeautiful images of your travels in Germany. Flight is so fascinating. My husband got his pilot's licence in high school and although he hasn't flown for many years, he's still interested in it. He would have enjoyed seeing the gliding museum. (so would I)
AntwortenLöschenYour quilt is bright and beautiful!
Alles Liebe, Traude

AntwortenLöschenI am intrigued by all forms of flight and have threatened to get an ultralight more than once. That Leffe looks delicious, I think I have had one of those at one point or another.
AntwortenLöschenAmazingly beautiful old half-timbered houses, Viola. I like the narrow streets and old houses. The scenery are beautiful, it doesn't feel like autumn has arrived.
AntwortenLöschenYou hava had a lovely Holiday! Such beautiful pictures! Autumn is there the most wonderful! 🍁 Thank you for visiting my blog! Best Wishes from Finland! 🌺
AntwortenLöschenTodella mukavalta vaikuttava loma. Hienoja kuvia.
AntwortenLöschenKiitokset vierailusta blogissani. 🌸🌺🌼
Love the photographs. What a wonderful time you must be having. Enjoy your time away.
AntwortenLöschenHugs and blessings
