Start of last vacation - Quilt - October bliss

Who doesn't dream of flying!

Well, we were traveling by car on our vacation, but we were very enthusiastic about visiting the Wasserkuppe, which is considered "the cradle of gliding".

We were already looking forward to the German Gliding Museum with model flights.

It's also exciting to watch the planes take off on the 670 m long asphalt runway...

Just like the hang gliders and paragliders.

And last but not least, there is fantastic nature all around for hiking and relaxing.

Just beautiful.

Our next destination was the Eifel in Germany - Monreal and Monschau - the two ancient cities of cloth makers and wool crafts, which were based on the large herds of sheep. The half-timbered and quarry stone houses bear witness to the prosperity between the Thirty Years' War and the 19th century.

We had a meal in this small inn in Monschau

and I ordered a real Belgian beer in anticipation of our next destination... before we hiked back to our accommodation.

Later BELGIUM - and now Quilt.

The binding is prepared and since there are so many corners, I sewed small coasters.

Aren't they funny :-))

I have more in the works :-)) and since the weather was so good there were some great hikes.

All the best until next time.

Hug from me.

  25. Hej Viola,

  27. It’s always a joy to read your blog, Viola, for a lesson in exuberance and the enjoyment of life. Seems like you are having a great vacation - and your quilt is looking fabulous too. Having a great Belgian beer is a fine advance introduction to a country you are about to visit. We’ll all look forward to hearing about it. Very best wishes - David

Dir alles Liebe, Carola

  30. How lovely to accompany you on your travels, Viola.
The Wasserkuppe and Gliding Museum sound very exciting, and I've been to Monschau a couple of times, it not being too far from the Belgian border. And I see you tasted some non-alcoholic Leffe!
    Loving the quilted coasters! xxx

  38. It looks like your holiday was just perfect for you with the beautiful scenery and places to see. The German Gliding museum would be fun to visit but I don't think I would be able to hang glide myself. I have enough of an adventure on a regular plane flight :-)
I love the coasters you made with the scraps left over from your quilt. Very bright and colourful.
Thinking of you. Have a good week.

  39. Wonderful photos and such a beautiful quilt! The gliding museum reminds me of one we visited a few years ago in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Always fascinating to see what brave people there were when flying was brand new. Brave people to go up on a hang glider now :) Splendid post Viola, thank you so much!

  42. Beautiful images of your travels in Germany. Flight is so fascinating. My husband got his pilot's licence in high school and although he hasn't flown for many years, he's still interested in it. He would have enjoyed seeing the gliding museum. (so would I)
Your quilt is bright and beautiful!

    Alles Liebe, Traude

  45. I am intrigued by all forms of flight and have threatened to get an ultralight more than once. That Leffe looks delicious, I think I have had one of those at one point or another.
