In the morning!

Though I'm thinking of spring, I had this view out the window this morning... this gives me the opportunity to introduce you to my foil bird.

The window is a bay window and birds flew against it. Since I fixed the pane with the bird's foil, the birds no longer fly against the pane. So I gladly adopt the foil bird to protect the birds... and I have a large number in the garden... blackbirds, meissen, robins, sparrows, several types of finches, when it's very cold the forest birds come to that Feeder... bullfinch, woodpecker, etc.

At the end of February - it was some very warm days - we took a tour of Mount Oybin in Germany/Saxony... the mountain is 514m high and the ruins of Emperor Charles IV's castle complex occupy the entire summit area. It is a small, beautiful and historically interesting hike. And an old steam train runs through the villages and there are many beautiful half-timbered houses to admire.

to Mount Oybin

Do you see the little steam train?

It was a beautiful tour, maybe you enjoyed seeing the photos.

Best wishes from Viola

  3. Good morning, Viola: As you might imagine, I am very appreciative of the fact that you are doing your best to discourage birds from flying into your windows. They have enough natural hazards to contend with, without humans adding more. Great tour you had in Germany. Europe has so many interesting destinations. Hugs from Ontario - David

  5. Så spennende tur! Vakre bilder.

  8. ...Viola, thanks for taking me on this beautiful tour. We have those huge rocks here too. Looking down to the valley with the train is lovely. Enjoy your day.

  9. What a wonderful tour! I particularly like seeing those narrow walkways. And thank you for caring about the birds. I'm always trying to deter them from flying at my windows, not easy in a house where it looks as if they can fly right through -- view clear through when the front door's open.

  11. Liebe Viola,

  13. Hello Viola, I would like you to place the language translator on the right of the post page, because otherwise we cannot read what it says in them.
I don't know English and German and I need you to post it so that those who want to know can easily read it.
For example I write to you using my translator.

  15. The foil bird is a fantastic idea. I wish my parents had thought of this one I was still living at home. With floor to ceiling windows at both ends of our living room, many a bird met an untimely death ...
I loved tagging along on your trip to Berg Oybin. What a spectacular place! Thank you so much for sharing! xxx

  18. What interesting rocks and also the castle ruins. Quite an unusual place to visit.
I've heard that the bird silhouettes work to keep birds from hitting windows. Great idea. Granny Marigold

  20. Hej Viola!

  26. Hello Viola. The foil bird on your window is a very good and kind idea to protect the birds in your garden from harm. Your trip to Mount Oybin looks wonderful. I enjoyed seeing the buildings and the castle ruins. A steam train is always lovely to see. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful pictures. Have a good week x

  27. The foil bird is a great idea. We once had to hang a foil pie plate in a window when a silly robin kept flying into it time after time. I think a bird looks better. 😀

Both the geology and the castle itself look awesome. What a place to visit!

  31. Wow.....such great pics of older buildings. I love them. Thank you for sharing them. Winter has been really strange here in the states. A really cold and ice event in Dec. for a week. Some warmer events in Jan, Feb and March. But right now Old Man Winter and Mother Nature have been fighting on whose turn it is to come out and play. Old Man Winter don't want to give it up and Mother Nature wants to be spring in. All of our bushes and trees have bloomed out already, plants popping up out of the ground and I have the itch to plant plants and seeds but I will hold off till mid April when its safe. Thanks for stopping in to say hi.

  32. Beautiful photographs. We host a pair of mated birds, Robins, every year outside our back door. When they fledge we often have sparrows that use the same nest. great fun.

    Happy belated birthday.

  34. Good morning, I am so glad you dropped by my blog for a visit. I loved all the photos very much-what a beautiful area, and awesome place to hike and explore. I appreciate you sharing-we do not get out much at all any more so I travel through posts like this one.
We love birds too, I feed them on our deck in the early morning-we have many different woodpeckers, lost of little birds, next month the hummingbirds will arrive too-so fun.
no snow here where I live-on lake in the ozarks in Missouri-but bitter cold we have been in the low teens F this past week.
    Happy weekend Kathy

  40. So glad you were able to figure out how to keep the birds from flying into your window, we have only had that happen twice but thankfully it hasn't happened in quite a few years.
Such beautiful pictures of that village and your walk through, I enjoyed them very much :)
