Helau
Just in time for the carnival, I started a varied project - lots of cheerful colors and patterns go under the sewing machine. It's simply wonderful to look at this colorful mix. Yes color is a must! I will of course present the result.
And there was a walk to get these wonderful sweets - in my region they are called "Pfannkuchen" - pancakes - filled with lots of jam and very delicious... at selected bakeries.
It was a wonderful walk - today with sunshine.
Do you know pancakes? What are they called in your area? Do you celebrate carnival in your area? The carnival season starts here on November 11th. and ends tomorrow on Ash Wednesday with Lent seven weeks before Easter.
A happy greeting to you
- Helau -
Viola
Her i Norge kalles de du kaller pannekaker for Berlinerboller :)
Your pancakes look delicious. I'm in the US and I would say our comparison would be a filled doughnut. But I'm not positive of that. Your pictures, as always, are beautiful. I loved seeing all of the colors and patterns in the first picture. And seeing the flowers that are blooming...cheers me up! Have a wonderful week, Viola.
AntwortenLöschenLovely post!
AntwortenLöschenHello, Viola! Now I'm curious to see what you will sew from the pretty pieces of fabric. I will be cooking pancakes for supper tonight and have potato salad to go with them. I'm going to look in my big German cookbook and see what the pancake recipes are called there. Your pictures look like spring touches are around you!
AntwortenLöschenI know those as filled doughnuts also. You have a lot of beauty around you!
AntwortenLöschenIt is Pancake Tuesday here too but I think our pancakes are quite different from yours. Yours look more like our doughnuts filled with jam. Delicious 💗💗
AntwortenLöschenHej Viola,
AntwortenLöschenHeerlijk dat het voorjaar er aankomt. Mooie foto's.
Lieve groet Willy
Jam doughnut here in Glasgow, or a Berliner in Switzerland (where I was growing up). I do love a jam doughnut! Spring looks nice in your part of the world x
AntwortenLöschenHeel leuk bericht! Bloemen, rivier, lente! Bedankt voor het bericht!
AntwortenLöschenProbably a jam-filled Danish pastry.
AntwortenLöschenCurious as to what you are making with all the colorful fabrics. :)
It is a yeast dough that is formed into a dumpling, filled with jam and then fried in fat in a high pan. Tastes best fresh and is really delicious when the dough is well made.
LöschenAccording to legend, the pancake was invented by a Berlin baker in 1756 - which is why it is also called the "Berliner Pfannkuchen" - Berlin pancake -
You pancakes look delicious....we would call them a jam doughnut here too. Such lovely images of the world awakening for spring!
AntwortenLöschenI love the looks of deserts here. Especially the donuts
AntwortenLöschenThe "Pfannkuchen" look delicious :)
AntwortenLöschenI did enjoy seeing your photographs.
Once the month of February arrives Spring always seems that much closer.
Enjoy your days.
All the best Jan

Pancakes the day before lent is the tradition here too. Always a favourite!
AntwortenLöschenYes we have pancakes, Viola, though they are a little different to those that you eat. Gorgeous walks through your countryside! So lovely to drink in each vignette. Oh yes, one must always have colour, colour and then, more colour! =) Love all those vibrant fabrics you are playing with.
Mariette
The pfannkuchen look delicious!
AntwortenLöschenYour fabric pieces are very colourful and I look forward to what you will make with them.
It's so lovely to see signs of spring in the landscape. The catkins are always so pretty hanging from the trees.
Have a good week.
Nice to see the photos. We have pancakes but they are flat! Different from yours.
AntwortenLöschenHello Viola, Pfannkuchen is called " fánk" in Hungary and is mainly eaten during the carnival season. I love it.
AntwortenLöschenWe celebrate carnival in my country. There is a famous carnival celebration in the south of Hungary. The name of the town is Mohács and people wear masks and clothes made of fur. All the best to you. Éva
Your pancakes look like what we would call doughnuts. We make flat pancakes with milk egg and flour and roll them up with different fillings - lemon and sugar, syrup, fruit and they can be savoury too. Lovely photographs Viola. xx
Inger G.
Hello Viola,
AntwortenLöschenLovely collection of photos. I love seeing the spring flowers.
Your pancakes look delicious, they look like our donuts. Our pancakes are very flat. Take care, have a wonderful day!
Kram Carin
When I was a boy many families celebrated with pancakes, but there was no carnival and the tradition of having pancakes seems to have died too. Of course, Canada is home to many cultures, and pancakes were not a tradition in most of them anyway. I will be looking forward to seeing what you make with all that brightly-coloured fabric, Viola. You are indeed one of the brightest, happiest people I know. I wish you lived closer. Many hugs - David
AntwortenLöschenSpring is on it's way. Here the Pfannkuchen are called Berliner! Lots of love to you on Valentine's Day, hugs, Valerie
AntwortenLöschenWe have pancakes but they are flat and wider. More like an omelet. We fill with cream or fruit ( like cherries), and jam, or just with lemon juice and sugar. We also have them savoury with things like bolognese sauces and meat/ vegetables. The ones in your last picture look more like our doughnuts which have things like jam or custard in them. We have them all year round whereas we have pancakes just on Shrove Tuesday before Lent begins. Love the Catkins. I will have to go for a walk and see if they are out yet here.
Hello Viola! Thank you for sharing those very welcome signs of Spring and those delicious pastries! They are actually called Boules de Berlin here in Belgium, and now I am craving one :-)
AntwortenLöschenCan't wait to see the result of your colourful project! xxx
Preciosas imágenes, de distinta temática.
AntwortenLöschenMuy buenas fotografías.
I love pancakes and doughnuts (donuts) two different things here in Australia
AntwortenLöschenDear Viola, :=) Thank you for returning so that I too could visit you. I was concerned that you would think I had forgotten you! :=) We also have Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday but I didn't have all the ingredients to make them yesterday. They are flat, filled with jam or cream or both, and then rolled up so you can fit several on a plate, I like them just sprinkled with sugar and a squeeze of lemon. In Portugal we eat another type of Doughnut called Bolo de Berlin. Lovely views, and swatches of colourful material. I will look forward to seeing what you make with them.
AntwortenLöschenAll the best
Hugs
Sonjia
looking forward to seeing what you make with all those lovely fabrics.... great to see the plants. Our pancakes are more flat... those look more like what I would call a doughnut... both are yummy in my opinion
They look like filled donuts we have in the states. Lovely to see signs of spring! Have a wonderful weekend!
AntwortenLöschenThey look like the doughnuts we have here which can be filled with a variety of sweet treats such as jam and apple and coated with sugar or cinnamon. Our pancakes are flatter but can also have tasty fillings which can be sweet or savoury. I like them simply with lemon juice and sugar.
AntwortenLöschenI am interested to see what you make with your pretty fabric.
Have a great week, Viola x
Beautiful photographs. It's so encouraging to see signs of spring. We have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
AntwortenLöschenVery nice collection of photos, the sweets have to be delicious, in my area or rather in the area where we are now the carnival is the big party and it is enjoyed a lot, you can look at Cadiz province of Andalusia you will see how it is celebrated in a big way.
AntwortenLöschenBest regards.
Lovely spring photos and sweets -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
AntwortenLöschenLovely post
AntwortenLöschenWhen I think of a carnival, I think of Halloween festivities, but we do have carnivals that are mini amusement parks in the early fall/late summer. They are usually at the fairs in every county.
AntwortenLöschenThanks for taking us on a lovely walk.
