Holiday photos - summer 2024 - IV.
Nymans Garden in West Sussex was created by three generations of the Messel family from the late 19th century. The German-style half-timbered house was replaced in 1915 by Leonard Messel with a stone manor house in the late Gothic Tudor style and the garden was expanded. From 1930 onwards the garden reached its peak and was regularly opened to the public. In 1947 a fire destroyed parts of the house. In 1953 the garden and 111 hectares of woodland were bequeathed to the National Trust.
We have pure sunshine - and I go summer skirt and spaghetti strap shirt. The garden is great. We are thrilled.
And we love the National Trust staff, who are always available to provide expert information and are full of friendliness.
We visited seven gardens on this holiday and were completely thrilled with every garden. It was always a pleasure to explore a garden and a relaxation at the same time.
Our second was Sheffield Garden in East Sussex. Sheffield Park has a special cricketing heritage with its beautiful lily ponds and a variety of waterfowl, woodland walks and small clearings. Lord Sheffield organized and financed cricket tours to Australia in 1891-92. This trophy is still being played for in Australia today. I was happy to be able to visit the cricket field in the park.
It's so nice - isn't it :-) but that should be it for now with the review of the summer vacation... as we approach the beautiful Christmas month with its amenities. It's wonderful to enjoy this time.
Yesterday I was offered mulled wine and this morning there were the first snowflakes... and the Christmas crafts are underway.
Hug from Viola
Hello Viola,
AntwortenLöschenWhat a great report and fantastic pictures of this historical place.
Special that old tree and nice that windows.
A nice place with many birds.
Many greetings,
Marco
...Viola, thanks for taking me along on your holiday to see these wonderful sights. I hope that there will be more!!!
AntwortenLöschenDearest Viola,
AntwortenLöschenYou certainly captured the summer vacation's beauty very well.
Those images will warm your heart during the cold winter.
Hugs,
Mariette
I've enjoyed all the pictures from your vacation, thanks for taking me along!
Fijne week, lieve groet Willy
Beautiful gardens, Viola. The duckling and other birds are always my favourite…and the flowers…and the trees.
AntwortenLöschenHello Viola, once again I marvel at your wonderful trip. The photos are lovely and it is fun to see birds and butterflies the same as here. We have the Canada goose, moor hen, Red Admiral butterfly and the flower we call Spider plant. It cheers me now as winter is approaching and we expect our first snow in 2 days. I so enjoy going into huge preserved homes and museums so this castle you show is nothing we have in USA. We are too young, lol. Lynn and Precious
AntwortenLöschenI like those first two interior photos.
AntwortenLöschenThe building and the flora are just gorgeous at the first one. All the wildlife was a true joy at the second garden. :)
AntwortenLöschenThe garden is looking so superb. The ducks and the geese are looking so lovely
AntwortenLöschenBeautiful gardens, Viola - thank you for taking us with you!

I can see that this vacation in England was a very enjoyable interlude in your life, Viola, and that immense enjoyment was derived from it. But clearly, the most important aspect of the whole adventure was to have shared it with CANADA Geese. Now that really makes it special! Best wishes - David

AntwortenLöschenOh my! What gorgeous photos. Those gardens are spectacular. I agree with you completely about the National Trust guides. Everyone we encountered was the same -- knowledgable, friendly, seeming to enjoy their work. Your vacation was beautiful and I hope every now and then you show another photo or two!
AntwortenLöschenHow lovely post!

AntwortenLöschenI've been to Nymans but never to Sheffield Park, which I must put on my list of gardens to visit. We love visiting National Trust properties, and you are right, the staff is generally very knowledgeable and friendly. One time they even opened a gallery especially for us when we told them we came all the way from Belgium!
AntwortenLöschenThank you so much for sharing your Summer holiday memories with us, Viola! xxx
Lovely photos and flowers! Hope to visit Nymans Garden soon.

AntwortenLöschenGorgeous and then some. What a beautiful place to explore. And I envy you're being able to wear sleeveless and enjoy the sun. It's ugly, gray, dark, cold, and wet here. LOVE your outfit. Very pretty. The picture of you by the tree is fabulous.
AntwortenLöschenHi Viola. A beautiful place, where architecture and nature flow.
