Holiday photos - big summer vacation -
At the end of August we drove across Germany - approx. 700 km - and looked at many beautiful cities and scenic highlights before continuing on to the Belgian coast, the North Sea.
We spent three days in the coastal town of Koksijde, which is close to the French border. In the district, crabs are still traditionally fished using nets and horses.
We also wanted to visit the museum of the Belgian painter Paul Delvaux.

We enjoyed it, there are many more beautiful things to see in Belgium,
but our holiday destination was England... and we started with the ferry from nearby Dunkirk/France.
I'm always excited to go on a ferry, we know it from our many trips from Germany to Oslo... and England was the very first time for us.
I was particularly happy about the nice weather because I really wanted to see the cliffs of Dover from the ship - imagine the sailors hundreds of years ago returning home from their long voyages and seeing the cliffs of their homeland.. .

| In the harbor you can see Dover Castle high up. |
All of our attention is now focused on left-hand traffic, which we are experiencing for the first time... it's not as difficult as we thought, at least with a passenger, because in our own car the steering wheel is on the wrong side and this results in restricted visibility... so BE CAREFUL driver and passenger too!!! At this point I have to say that driving in England, once you get used to it, is wonderfully relaxed - completely free of hustle and bustle and people pay a lot of attention to each other . I am very pleased to be able to say thank you. Thank you very much.
And now... off to the cliffs... right :-)))

AntwortenLöschenDearest Viola,
AntwortenLöschenThat sounds like a wonderful trip into Belgium with some very interesting things to visit.
Then the Ferry to Dover where you visited the cliffs.
You at least look very happy walking there.
Driving on the left is all about concentration!
When we both did consulting in Austalia, one morning over breakfast we heard a crash, right in front of motel... Learned that a woman got killed. Looking at each other, the question came up—who is driving today? This was the 3rd day and it was my turn again!
You at least were on vacation—no rush for being in time for work.
Those are the patchworks of memories for old age and you at least dare to make fond memories!
Hugs,
Mariette
Your trip/vacation sounds wonderful, all places sound so interesting! I would be terrified to drive in England. I wouldn't be able to relax, I'm glad you were able to.
Lovely post! Have a nice weekend.
AntwortenLöschenA wonderful trip surrounded by beautiful landscapes and seeing your smile, it was surely an unforgettable vacation.
AntwortenLöschenI'm glad you had a good trip to England, and managed the driving. I am going to Germany over Christmas, but not driving!
AntwortenLöschenServus Viola, ganz wundervoll und mir unbekannt. Die Welt ist überall interessant.
AntwortenLöschenLG aus Wien
Sounds so fun! enjoyed the photos-hugs Kathy
AntwortenLöschenHello Viola,
AntwortenLöschenYou have visit very nice places while your holiday. Very nice pictures!!
Great to see that Begian coast. And fantastic to see that harbour of Dover. I think you will have a good time all there.
Many greetings,
Marco
You are an excellent travel guide! Perfect for me as I am only an armchair traveler now and even when younger never was able to travel outside of the U.S. I admit to envy that those of you in Europe are so close to visiting each other's countries. The picture of you standing above the cliffs of Dover is darling, pure enjoyment written all over you!
AntwortenLöschenHow wonderful to enjoy your holiday so much that you are extending it. I liked all your pictures and feel a little envious. So beautiful. Granny Marigold
This looks like a fabulous trip. i'e seen the Cliff of Dover only from a plane flying into London. And I've never been to Germany or Belgium. I thoroughly enjoyed your post. Thanks for sharing! hugs-Erika
AntwortenLöschenHello Viola, I'm glad you had such a wonderful trip to England. I, too, would love to see the cliffs of Dover one day. Such an iconic sight for sailors. You look lovely standing there on the cliff.
Sounds like lots of fun and a wonderful adventure. Lovely photos and thanks so much for sharing.
Trevliga bilder.
Ha en fin helg /Marika
Fabulous weather for your drive through Belgium. Looking forward to seeing the spots you visit. We watched the ferry's from the Dover coast once - it's a lovely walk near the cliffs...
AntwortenLöschenHugz
Thank you for taking us along on your wonderful holiday, Viola!
AntwortenLöschenLooks like a great vacation!! Thanks for sharing all your beautiful photos.
AntwortenLöschenit looks like a wonderful holiday - glad you worked out driving on the left - that is how we do it too! (in Australia)
AntwortenLöschenI hope you will reply to this comment so I can get your email address and replay to your comments on my blog.
What a sight--those white cliffs!
AntwortenLöschenI love the handmade sign about the ground nesting birds and the dog poop--lol!
Just beautiful!! :)
Wow, those white cliffs of Dover, amazing. Thank for taking us along on your holiday, enjoyed looking at your photos.
AntwortenLöschenWhat a fabulous vacation. I enjoyed seeing all the photos.-
Fijne zondag, lieve groet Willy
I am sure you are having a wonderful time on this grand pan-European adventure. I will look forward to hearing more. I have driven on the “wrong” side of the road a few times. As you get older each time becomes scarier! Hugs - David
AntwortenLöschenWe mastered the driving with two people (because the passenger has to look when turning because the driver is sitting on the wrong side) and we were happy that it worked so well.
LöschenHug too you
More great photographs Viola. Are you sure you have been to England though? My impression of the traffic is nothing like yours!! lol xx
AntwortenLöschenWe took our time driving and we let local cars pass on narrow streets so we could drive in a relaxed manner. We were on vacation and had all the time in the world.
LöschenWe were e.g. in Mousehole and because the navigation system guided us that way we drove down the very narrow road... that was exciting for me as a passenger. On the way back we saw that the small public bus was taking a different route and we followed the bus... which we didn't regret. Ugh, you definitely know these streets, Lin.
Best wishes to you in Somerset and hug.
Your vacation sounds wonderful, Viola. So beautiful, those photos. I love all that water. I was a little freaked out being in a car in England (we weren't driving -- a local was). Those roads are really narrow in places! But it's a beautiful way to see countryside. Well done!
AntwortenLöschenThank you for taking us with you on this wonderful holiday. I enjoyed it very much. So many pictures you let us see.
Those cliffs sure do stand out! Beautiful!
AntwortenLöschenI would have loved to see all that you saw...I would have enjoyed the ferry ride, also.
AntwortenLöschenI enjoyed reading your travelogue covering two of my favourite countries. I'm glad to read you loved Belgium. Although we spend a week in the area every year, we've never been to the Paul Delvaux museum, which I admit is quite shameful :-) xxx
AntwortenLöschenNext time you will visit it and you will enjoy it...
LöschenThere is also a small cafe in the museum... and there is a small parking lot right opposite.
All very comfortable.
Best regards
Saluti.
AntwortenLöschenThanks for visiting me. You got wonderful photos, especially of Dover! I love the ones with the castle in the distance and the bird's reflection on the beach!
AntwortenLöschenNice photos, you are very cute.
AntwortenLöschenHi Viola. What an amazing trip! Your description is mesmerizing and the photos are great. A wonderful travel-report.
AntwortenLöschenThank you for commenting on my blog, which lead me here. Your blog looks very interesting. My father was born in Germany and I have relatives there. I also am intrigued by Norway and its culture. I hope to read more from you!
Spennende, takk for alle bildene du viser oss fra ferien din.
AntwortenLöschenGlad you enjoyed your holiday to England, Viola. The white cliffs of Dover are so iconic and it is always good to see them when we return from holidays abroad. I hope you will visit England again and see more of our country.
AntwortenLöschenYour photos are amazing. What remarkable trip and great you had such good weather. Thank you for sharing.
AntwortenLöschenSuch a lovely vacation, I enjoyed seeing your photographs.
AntwortenLöschenThe white cliffs of Dover are so iconic and the National Trust are a very good organisation.
Great post.
Sending lots of good wishes to you for a happy month of November.
All the best Jan

Besos.
AntwortenLöschenI took the ferry from Dieppe many times when I was living in England long time ago.
AntwortenLöschenAnd drove our car on the left and rented an English car experienced both. It is true that when you drive your car you must have a passenger to help.
Glad you enjoyed your holidays. Happy November

What a beautiful trip!.....I'm so glad you had a great time....it is always good to make memories with the family....and try new food!!......Abrazotes, Marcela
AntwortenLöschenLove all the photos!! I would have loved seeing England with my true love but it's just a dream now.
AntwortenLöschenGlad you enjoyed it!!

You took wonderful photos! Thank you for taking me home for a little while.
AntwortenLöschentoo good
AntwortenLöschenLove these pictures! I've been to England six times. Our short visit to Dover was focused on the castle and the museum about the WW2 war room.
