Golden Rider - Tchaikovsky - new project
Last weekend, I took a short train ride and, after a fifteen-minute walk, headed straight to the Golden Rider—my destination was this year's pottery market. I love all the market activity.
The monument was created between 1732 and 1734 and depicts Elector Frederick Augustus I—better known as Augustus the Strong—on his Lipizzaner stallion.
I loved the monument even as a child, certainly because of the horse and probably also because of the glittering gold.
For 30 years, the pottery market has been held at this square with selected ceramic artists...

I hope you found something that might interest you. I didn't buy anything this time, but continued walking across the Elbe Bridge...
...to get to the Semperoper. After a nice snack, I watched the opera "Eugene Onegin" by Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky.

| it was fantastic |
I'm so happy because I still have two tickets and two shows left... and then the Christmas concerts – well, we're not there yet :-)))
It's pouring with rain today, and I've started a new project...
I want to work with a rotary cutter using the free-cutting technique and it will be a large blanket - my blanket no. 4.
I'm busy painting signs for this year's jams... that's really fun, too.
Love to all of you from Viola
I'm looking forward to seeing what you're up to.
You are a busy woman, Viola, filled with the joy of life. I am sure it is very satisfying to visit the same market you enjoyed so much as a child. So many of us live far from where we were born and lack that opportunity. To end the day with an opera is sublime! Very best wishes - David
AntwortenLöschenThe market seems like such an interesting and happy place — on a nice day too.
AntwortenLöschenHi Viola!
AntwortenLöschenI would have loved to be at the pottery market. I was at a handcraft tour here in our city. Different handcraft on different places in the city center. I bought a very nice pot and a bracelet.
Have a nice day /Marika
Hello Viola,
AntwortenLöschenWhat a cozy place. The places on the first 3 shots are so nice.
And great to see that market with beautiful pots and vases. Also beautiful with various creations like that frog and also sudoku on a cup.
Very nice that you show these pictures!!
Many greetings,
Marco
That pottery market looks like a lot of fun. I love the one with the fox closer to the end. Not sure if it's a vase or a mug. So many creative designs.
AntwortenLöschenYou showed restraint at the pottery market, I saw several items I would have like to purchase. What a wonderful visit with an enjoyable time to come in the future. Happy stitching on your new project!
A wonderful event.
AntwortenLöschen...Viola, thanks for taking me to pottery market. We have collected many pieces of pottery over the years, they bring back memories. Take care and enjoy your approaching autumn, be well.
AntwortenLöschenI enjoy all the photos. This looks like a perfect day. Thank you for sharing it.
AntwortenLöschenGoodness! A feast for eyes and ears... and textures of fabric and the taste of jam!
AntwortenLöschenI really enjoyed your post-and I love pottery, back when I was younger I bought an 8 piece place setting with serving pieces from a local pottery shop-I love using handmade pottery dishes-I have lots of mugs and pottery glasses too enjoy your new quilt making
AntwortenLöschenKathy
I like all the pottery and would to walk and and see it all.
AntwortenLöschenoooooh i would so enjoy tagging along!! it is so nice when crafters allow you to photograph their creations. i understand why some don't, they don't want to be copied, but pictures like these are really helpful in setting the stage. i have been dabbling in painting with watercolors and have really enjoyed it. your labels look great, and i could see how you use them!! and i LOVE pottery!!
So edle Stücke.
Looks like a wonderful time! Beautiful photos, art and music! Thank you so much for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenWhat an interesting market! And such a beautiful opera house. Looking forward to seeing your next project.
AntwortenLöschenI love your jam labels! And all that pottery! I would have lost my mind (and half of my retirement!) at that spot. That theatre is so beautiful. Just being there would be lovely (even without the opera!)
AntwortenLöschenSo much to see and do.
AntwortenLöschenThat market looks amazing.
How can people walk on stilts?
I like all the pottery.
How wonderful to go to the opera.
Enjoy everything you do.
All the best Jan

It was the frog that caught my attention. Now I'm waiting to see your next quilt. Have fun.
I would love to go to this opera theater and hear a live performance. Thank you for sharing all these delightful sights. It is lovely to travel with you. Wishing you a very happy week ahead Viola!
AntwortenLöschenArt and you are best friends! Amazing impressions from big and large to small and little! You feel at home in many wonderful happenings and art-techniques! I love the photo with you and the large man!
AntwortenLöschenMany greetings from Dori from the Bavarian forest, daughter of my mother, who was a Dresden-girl*:*:*:*:
The market looks like such an interesting place to visit. I hope your new project goes well.
AntwortenLöschenWe love handmade pottery too, I might have come home with that rabbit coffee mug! Your new quilt palette looks like autumn, very serene.
What a wonderful post, Viola! I could almost feel the lively atmosphere of the pottery market through your words—the Golden Rider and its history make such a beautiful backdrop for it. And then to end the day with Eugene Onegin at the Semperoper… what a perfect combination of art and culture.
AntwortenLöschenI’m also inspired by your new creative projects—your blanket sounds like it will be both a challenge and a joy to make, and the jam signs are such a charming touch. Thank you for sharing these glimpses of beauty and creativity; they brighten up a rainy day for me, too!
Lovely post and several things have taken my eye with the market.
AntwortenLöschenLovely opera house inside there.
The pottery market looks amazing. So many beautiful items. My favourite was the frog.
AntwortenLöschenIt looks a wonderful place where you saw the opera. I hope you enjoyed your visit.
Your hand painted labels will be the perfect finishing touch to your jars. So pretty.
Have a great week and I will look forward to seeing your latest project when it's finished.
What a lovely post, Viola, full of so many wonderful things. Some of those pottery pieces are most attractive and if I were there, I probably would have wanted to purchase one of the flower vases.
AntwortenLöschenLive music, good food, and then the opera make for a day that satisfies body and soul.
Have a wonderful week.
What a delightful mix of art, music, and hands-on creativity, I love how you move seamlessly from the historic charm of the Golden Rider to the magic of Tchaikovsky and then into your own projects, it makes for such an inspiring day-in-the-life post, I just shared a new post.
AntwortenLöschenWhat a wonderful place to visit and I bet the opera was amazing too. Look forward to hearing more about your project. B x

AntwortenLöschenAll the best

Pretty fabric and beautiful labels. Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog!
What a wonderful mix of history and tradition! ✨ The monument itself sounds breathtaking, with its golden brilliance and striking horse, and it’s lovely that it holds meaning for you since childhood. Pairing that majestic piece of art with the lively pottery market must make the square feel both timeless and vibrant—history and creativity meeting in the same space. 🐎🏺💛
AntwortenLöschenThe pottery market looks like so much fun and how pretty all of the pottery is! The opera house is so beautiful! It must have sounded wonderful! Your hand painted labels look so pretty! Such a great idea!
AntwortenLöschenThe ceramics market—I could spend the whole day there, everything was so interesting! I liked the frog with the big paws. You're great for going to the opera, Viola. Tchaikovsky's music is wonderful.
