They are ripe - how wonderful.
I love picking berries in the field.
By car to the field and then using the baskets to pick as much as you like. They are balanced and paid for - currently 4,30 euros a kilo - surrounded by forest, fields and peace... it's the dream for me. I look forward to it every year.
I've already cycled to the strawberry field, but the berries don't tolerate being transported by bike...
Wonderfully fresh and every berry hand-picked... that's what I love.
I made cakes
and made jam...
And this is where my new kitchen stove comes into play... I had a kitchen stove with a ceramic hob that broke after 28 years, so we recently bought a new one with induction.
And I used this to cook my fruit... oh... wow... it was difficult - the pot wasn't very suitable - so I also bought a new pot...
The pot is great. True craftsmanship. I'm thrilled... and excited to see how it will work - making my next jam.
I don't go online very often; in this wonderful weather I spend a lot of time outdoors. We had a great May with lots of sun and lots of rain showers, so things are blooming and thriving all around. I didn't even have to water the garden. However, the night frost on two days in early spring caused the cherry blossoms to freeze and the harvest also looks very bad for the winegrowers... as well as for some other types of fruit.
If you imagine that our "ancestors" were much more dependent on the harvest as a whole than we are today, we can fortunately only begin to imagine what significance the harvest had for the people of earlier times.
You see him, the cute little yellow ball, he made me try to take photos... most of the animals leave so quickly that I can't manage it.
Thank you, little Girlitz (Serinus serinus) with your lemon-yellow plumage. I am very pleased.

Viola, your strawberries look so delicious. I fear mine aren't going to make it to be picked. I think they were crowded out by spreading plants. AntwortenLöschenAls wir noch in Deutschland lebten, sind wir auch immer zum Erdbeerfeld gegangen und haben gepflückt - manche auch gleich direkt in den Mund. Wir hatten auch Blumenfelder bei uns, alles auf Vertrauensbasis. Als ich ein Kind war, ist meine Mutter mit uns immer raus in die Natur, um Himbeeren zu pflücken. Es war nicht so beliebt bei uns Kindern, weil das immer "so piekste", aber das Gelee, das sie anschließend daraus machte, war einfach wunderbar. HIer kaufe ich meine Erdbeeren auf dem Markt von ansässigen Bauern, und sie sind superlecker. Der Marmeladentopf sieht hervorragend aus - ich mag Kupfer, gute Wärmeleitung. Und der Topf hat so eine hübsche Form. Herrliche Bilder von der Natur bei euch. Auch Storchennester erinnern mich an meine Kindheit. Später gab es die dann nicht mehr so häufig bei uns, leider. Vielleicht ist das inzwischen besser geworden, aber ich habe meine Zweifel. Als ich in den letzten Jahren im Elsass und in der Türkei war, habe ich dort viele Nester gesehen. Der Girlitz ist süß und hat ja zum Glück ein bisschen ausgeharrt, so dass du dein Foto machen konntest. Ich hoffe, dass der Juni ähnlich schön wird wie der Mai. Sonne und Regen ist die perfekte Kombination. Wir haben viel Sonne hier, aber leider im Sommer viel zu wenig bis gar keinen Regen. Ich habe meinen Garten diesen Bedingungen angepasst und habe fast nur einheimische Pflanzen und solche, die Trockenheit gut tolerieren und nur vereinzelte, die ein bisschen mehr flüssige Zuwendung brauchen. Damit gedeiht mein Garten prächtig, und wie du verbringe ich viel Zeit draußen und weniger online. Ja, irgendwann geht auch dies und das kaputt und Du hast einen tollen Topf für den neuen Herd gefunden. Selbst gekochte Erdbeermarmelade ist doch was gutes! Ich kaufe diese leckeren Früchte zur Zeit immer am Mittwochs-Markt, da gibt es genau diese Sorte: Aromatisch-süß nicht wässerig: Hmmmmm!!! Ihr habt ja so viele mitgenommen, dass du nun auch deine Küche bereichern kannst. Mit etwas Aufwand zunächst, aber mit einem erfolgreichen Ergebnis, sodass ihr auch in der kommenden Zeit noch Erdbeer-Genuss haben werdet!
AntwortenLöschenJa, ich erinnere mich an die frostigen Tage im Frühling, als viele Obstbäume gelitten haben. Ich habe sogar ein Gemälde angefertigt, wo Menschen unter den Apfelbäumen Feuer machen, um die Blüten zu erwärmen. Dein nachdenklicher Hinweis über Ernteschäden in früherer Zeit ist sehr wichtig! Heutzutage denken wir oft, dass es immer alles gibt, doch auch jetzt sind wir stets vom Klima abhängig und nichts ist ohne Geschenk des Himmels.

Strawberries are beginning to ripen here. I will freeze them in packages for the winter, and hopefully eat lots of them fresh from the field now. Yes, it's time to be outdoors and enjoying the beautiful world we live in. Wonderful pictures, Viola.

Det var lekker ny gryte du har kjøpt, vi måtte også bytte ut noen gryter da vi flyttet fra gammel komfyr til induksjonsovn i ny leilighet. AntwortenLöschenI am a suburban gardener. Unfortunately I have little to show for it. A tiny chipmunk eats off the plans greens as they emerge from the soil. Fresh veggies from the garden are used to supplement our summer produce. We have tried to trap it to no avail.

Ich LIEBE Erdbeeren, liebe Viola! Leider ist mein eigenes "Feld" (im Hochbeet) in diesem Jahr durch die starken Regenfälle ziemlich in Mitleidenschaft gezogen. Ist das Wetter bei euch immer noch so schön wie auf deinen Ende-Mai-Fotos? Wir haben hier nämlich Hagel, Überschwemmungen etc., aber zum Glück ist unser Ortsteil bis jetzt noch glimpflich davongekommen. Selber ernten bei einem Bauern macht bei dem Wetter jedenfalls auch keinen Spaß, deshalb kaufe ich die Beeren im Hofladen.

Du hast mich neulich gefragt, ob ich eine Kaffeetasse von der Keramikwerkstätte in Tasmanien mitgebracht habe. Ich habe von der gesamten Reise nur ein Shirt und ein kleines Umhängetäschchen mitgebracht. Unser Gepäck war total am Limit und ich begnüge mich fast immer mit Fotos. Wir haben ja ohnehin so viele Tassen im Schrank ;-)

How wonderful those strawberries look. We used to grow them under a big frame when we lived in France. I dont have room here, but occasionally find wild berries in the garden.
