new project and day trip

My new project will be my fourth quilt. I cut the different fabrics into equal-sized squares so that I can then use the chosen free-cutting technique.

Now four pieces of fabric are placed on top of each other and cut into four pieces... the free-form cutting is really fun... as is putting the pieces of fabric together.

Wonderful patterns emerge that now need to be sewn together.

I will keep you updated on the progress of the work.

We took a city and country trip to beautiful Görlitz. The city is divided by the Lausitzer Neisse River, which forms the border with Poland. The Polish part of the city is called Zgorzelec.

We parked right in town and walked the German part from the Obermarkt across the Untermarkt to the river to reach the pedestrian bridge that connects the two cities.

During Advent, a joint Christmas market takes place on both sides of the bridge and that makes my heart beat faster with joy.

On the German side, we made our way back to the car. The buildings display a wide variety of architectural styles, which arouses my particular interest.

Görlitz was already a very wealthy city in the Middle Ages, as it was located on important trade routes, such as the Via Regia. Trade in cloth and woad—a plant from which blue dye was obtained—led to the wealth that is still evident today in the cloth makers' hall houses.

We also took a short hike up the Landeskrone (420 m above sea level), which offers a good view of the Jizera and Giant Mountains (about 70 km away). And anyone who has been reading my blog for a long time knows that I am a very special fan of the Giant Mountains... both winter and summer.

 Golden Rider - Tchaikovsky - new project

Last weekend, I took a short train ride and, after a fifteen-minute walk, headed straight to the Golden Rider—my destination was this year's pottery market. I love all the market activity.

The monument was created between 1732 and 1734 and depicts Elector Frederick Augustus I—better known as Augustus the Strong—on his Lipizzaner stallion.

I loved the monument even as a child, certainly because of the horse and probably also because of the glittering gold.

For 30 years, the pottery market has been held at this square with selected ceramic artists...

I hope you found something that might interest you. I didn't buy anything this time, but continued walking across the Elbe Bridge...

...to get to the Semperoper. After a nice snack, I watched the opera "Eugene Onegin" by Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky.

I'm so happy because I still have two tickets and two shows left... and then the Christmas concerts – well, we're not there yet :-)))

It's pouring with rain today, and I've started a new project...

I want to work with a rotary cutter using the free-cutting technique and it will be a large blanket - my blanket no. 4.

I'm busy painting signs for this year's jams... that's really fun, too.
